Medical University of South Carolina
Shannon Jones is the director of libraries for the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. In this role, she has assumed leadership for all aspects of the library, including strategic planning, budgeting, technology integration, facility management and operation, and personnel administration. Before her arrival at MUSC, Shannon worked as the associate director of research and education at the Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA.
Shannon is an active member of the American Library Association, the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries, and the Medical Library Association (MLA), where she is a distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals. She currently serves on the board of directors for MLA and the Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries. Her professional interests include staff recruitment and retention; diversity, equity, and inclusion in libraries; organizational learning and development; self-care for information professionals; and leadership in academic health sciences libraries. Shannon is the co-editor of the book, Diversity and Inclusion in Libraries: A Call to Action and Strategies for Success.
Shannon received her MLS and MIS from North Carolina Central University. In addition, Shannon also holds an M.Ed in Adult Learning from VCU and a BA in English from North Carolina State University.
