Library Director at Indiana University School of Medicine
Gabe Rios is the library director of the Ruth Lilly Medical Library at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He leads a team of librarians and staff in collaborating with faculty, staff, and students distributed over nine campuses for their curricular, research, and clinical information needs. He has been in administrative positions with increasing responsibility and scope over the past 20 years and most recently served as deputy director of the Lister Hill Library at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Gabe has worked in several areas of librarianship including community-based outreach, public services, and information technology. He continues to work with emerging technologies and has taught technology-related classes at regional and national meetings over the past 16 years. Gabe has also served as a member of the Executive Board of the Medical Library Association (MLA) and as a National Program Committee co-chair for the Annual Meeting of the MLA. Gabe has a strong technology focus and supports use of emerging technologies to meet users where they are. Gabe received his BA in anthropology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and his MLIS from the University of Texas at Austin.
