New NEJM Frontiers in Medicine Series Explores Technology’s Impact on Clinical Practice
New monthly review series focuses on the most promising innovations
November 29, 2018

Are you curious about how new technologies such as gene therapy, artificial intelligence, and functional neuroimaging are or will be leveraged in clinical medicine? A new special series from the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), Frontiers in Medicine, explores the bridge between scientific discoveries and their development into clinically useful tools. Articles are authored by the technologies’ leading experts in academia and industry. Each month, different technology is reviewed, presenting its key elements, the evidence that supports its use in clinical practice, the benefits, and the challenges — including cost and privacy concerns — that complicate the picture.
The series includes an illustrated glossary to help readers understand new concepts explored within each article. Each term has a definition, details of the clinical context in which it is applied, and a visual presentation of the term.
The series is for anyone interested in medically relevant technology — how it works and what it can do. Check out this month’s article, “Circulating Extracellular Vesicles in Human Disease” here.
