Jane Blumenthal is associate university librarian and director, Taubman Health Sciences Library at the University of Michigan (U-M). She leads a team of informationists and staff in collaborating with health care professionals and biomedical scientists for education, research, and patient care. Prior to coming to U-M, Jane was assistant dean for knowledge management at Georgetown University Medical School. She also has worked for the American Medical Association and the National Cancer Institute-Frederick Cancer Research Facility (now the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research). Jane has a bachelor’s degree from the College of William & Mary and a master of science in library science (MSLS) degree from Catholic University of America. She is a member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals at the distinguished level and has been active in a variety of professional organizations, including the Medical Library Association (MLA) and the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL). She is president-elect of AAHSL and a member of the National Library of Medicine Board of Regents. Her professional activities include serving as president of MLA for 2012–2013, MLA treasurer and board member, chair of the MLA-AAHSL Joint Legislative Task Force, and chair of the National Program Committee for the 2008 MLA annual meeting. She has also been a member of the AAHSL Board of Directors and chair of the American Diabetes Association’s Publication Policy Committee, among other professional activities. Her interests include the future of libraries and librarians and the adaptation, growth, and development needed for individuals and institutions to flourish in a time of constant change.
